Hearing, in the combat arena, can make all the difference. Not being able to hear low-level sounds such as conversation, footsteps, rifle bolts being drawn or approaching enemies can give you a serious disadvantage. The very nature of the design of the plug gives two plugs in one. Inserting the yellow end of the plug gives you ambient hearing protection. Turn the plug around and insert the green end for protection against high level noise such as aircraft or armoured vehicles.
It is essential that the plugs are kept free of all earwax and other detritus. As such the plugs should be cleaned with soap and water and thoroughly dried before returning to the case. Users should also check that the ear plugs are properly inserted by gently tugging on the plug. If the plug does not move then proper insertion has been achieved.
